Activities on Lombok and the adjacent Gili islands are very varied. Swimming and relaxing on the beach or at your hotel or villa pool rate highest for most. Snorkelling is common everywhere as Lombok and the small islands are surrounded by coral reefs. Scuba Diving is best off the three Gilis although for the experienced diver the rugged coast at the south provides a much sterner challenge.
Golfers are well looked after with two majestic golf courses that spread between the mountains and the ocean, one designed by Jack Nicklaus and the other by Peter Thompson. Fitness Centres now form an integral part of all the major hotels, some of whom also have tennis and badminton courts.
Trekking, particularly to the peak of the imposing Mt, Rinjani, an active volcano and at 3,726m Indonesia’s 3rd highest, is a popular activity for the energetic tourist.
Surfing is possible outside the reefs, even at Senggigi, but the major surf breaks are off Kuta beach in Lombok’s south.
Fishing can be done off the beaches or by going out with the fishermen in their traditional fishing boats [jagungs]. Cruise the islands in luxury yachts just to relax or combine with diving, fishing, etc.
We attempt to list all activities, both physical and leisure. Wherever an activity is available within or from a hotel we link it to that hotel for your convenience.
